What are Kegels and What Can They Do for Me?

Kegel exercises were developed by Doctor Arnold Kegel, who took the concept of exercising the pubococcygeus muscle from the ancient Chinese Taoist movement. In ancient China, these exercises were performed to strengthen the muscle to promote better sex, health, and longevity. These exercises are now popular in western culture, and more people --both men and women-- are paying attention to performing these exercises and why they are important.

Kegels, as this exercise is commonly known, is the technique of tensing and releasing the pubococcygeus muscle or PC. This exercise is done to help men to have better erections and ejaculations, and for women to have stronger tissues, improving sex and orgasms and helping during birth. For men, other health benefits to Kegels include protecting the prostate and increasing blood flow to the pubic area. Kegels can also potentially prevent the occurrence of incontinence in both sexes. These exercises should be done from an early age to increase the strength and flexibility of the muscles.

The PC muscle has been the subject of much study over the years with regards to sexual health. In 1983, the San Francisco Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality published a paper showing the sexual benefits for women who did the PC exercise regularly. A similar study called Anal Pleasure and Health was done for men in 1981 by Jack Morin. Both studies showed that well toned PC muscles helped achieve better sex and orgasms.

For those who do not know, Kegels can be done by stopping the urination mid flow. Most people know where these muscles are instinctively, and can stop from urinating quite easily, but other people will find this difficult to do. This means that their PC muscle is weak. To strengthen the muscle, they should tense and release it a few times whenever they go to the toilet. For men, another way of finding the muscles is to do “push ups” with your penis when it is erect. Once you find the pelvic floor muscles that make your penis jump you can use them everyday to exercise and tone your PC muscles for better sexual health and other long term health benefits.

The main reason why this exercise can help men is that they will both gain more control over their ejaculations and have better erections. As with any form of exercise, doing Kegels will increase the blood flow to the area in order to repair the cells and give the muscles oxygen. The increase in blood supply will make the penis reach a harder and fuller erect state that will last much longer. The PC exercises can also help men who are prone to premature ejaculation. If you can control when to stop your urine, you can also stop semen, which will aid you when you are having sex, allowing you to prolong your ejaculation.

Kegel flexes are featured on PenisHealth because performing them will help you to achieve a bigger penis in a shorter amount of time. The increased blood flow will assist with the penis enlargement exercises that are assigned. Using Kegels, you can also achieve two goals at the same time, as Kegel flexes will also promote control over ejaculation and give you erections on demand.
